I found this link on another board and wondered what is everybodys thoughts. It sure sounds like a great way to get a little better traction off road as well as the highway.

I fully agree.  Siping is very important to traction on wet pavement and ice.  I would think it is equally important on slick rock, but I have no expereince there, so I can't say for certain.  I would rather have mud tires on my truck, which is driven mostly on pavement, so I have always looked for MT's that have siping.  The Pro-Comps have it and they had very nice traction on wet pavement.  Better so, I think, than the BFG all-terrains that I replaced with them.

Its a great thing to have off road, I think Discount tire offers it, but not sure if they can do it in house.

Is the extra traction worth the loss of rubber. It seams to me that it would cause the rubber to wear faster.

I don't think it's a problem.  We're just talking about small slits in the lugs.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Speedway-Tire-siper-Tire-groover-IMCA-Sprint-Car_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ107058QQihZ014QQitemZ330154148804QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW here is one for sale and they are not hard to find. Racers use them to change traction for different terrains. I had to borrow one 2 months ago to put rain grooves in slick tires to race in the rain. It takes a bit of time but it is fun to be creative.
