The dealer said nothing is wrong but was quick to blame the height issue on the Fox Racing shocks.  Does anyone know if they are adjustable and how to adjust them?  These are them: http://www.samcofabrication.com/products/product_info.php?products_id=48&osCsid=cb106c2a4df266b684ce69b69a58b9b3

The tech was willing to do the shackles swap, but wanted to wait until we find out the exact problem of the one side being lower.  So, still no shackles.

That realy dosent make sence to me?   I thought you ****onnected the rear shocks when you started the install? Once they are disconnected, they shouldn't have any effect being able to lower your leaf spring down to put on the shackles. You were able to do it on one side correct?

I'm not sure what doesn't make sense.  I must not be explaining something correctly.  Let me recap:  All the shocks had been replaced with the Fox Racing shocks back in June/July.  The torsion bars were replaced in July/August.  Neither shackle has been replaced.  I tried on the one side but couldn't get the axle to droop enough to allow me to fit the new one in.  When I tried to replace the one shackle, I disconnected the shock, removed the ABS line and loosened the sway bar.  I ended up putting the stock shackle back on.  In August (before I tried the shackle), I noticed one side of the truck sitting lower.  I had just replaced the t-bars so I thought I had adjusted them differently.  So I measured the front tires (from center of hub to bottom of fender) and they were even.  I didn't think to check the rear tires at that time.  Someone else said something about it later and in September I got around to measuring the rear tires, same method.  The passenger side was 1.5 inches lower than the drivers side.  I waited until I was going to the dealer for an oil change (they're an hour from my house).  That was this past Saturday, and I asked them to check it.  They are blaming it on the shocks.  So I'm trying to determine if that is possible before I get back to them and try to make them look for the problem.  So, I'm trying to find out why my truck sits 1.5 inches lower on one side.

Got ya! 2 different problems.

First issue- Did you only attempt to install the shackle on one side with everything disconnected? or did you try both with everything disconnected? From what you said, If you only tried one side and gave up then put everything back together, was that one side the 1.5 inch lower side you noticed the month prior?

Second issue, if you try putting the stock shock back on and it still sags then it's your spring. If your spring it shot, then it could have lead to the first issue not able to swap the shackle out. The reason is that if you spring doesn't have the arch from a failed leaf, then it flattens out to the point to where you couldn't drop it down enough to swap the shackle.

If you tried the swap the shackle on the normal side and it couldn't drop, then all bets are off.

This might seem a shot in the dark, but I have seen a case where if the vehicle is in park and rear emergency brake is set, the axle is not allowed to drop enough because it needs to rotate a ujoint on the drive line. This causes the drive line to bind. since you only disconnected one spring and the other was left together, it also wouldn't allow the axle to pitch forward enough to release the bind. Solution- put the transfer case in neutral and leave the brakes applied.

I really hope this helps you out! let us know!

Justin

First - I only tried on the one side.  It was hot and I was wiped from trying to manhandle the spring into place.  The side I tried it on was the drivers side.  This is the side that is higher.  The passenger side is the lower one and I did not try anything there.

Second - I think I still have the stock shocks.  That is a good thought, swap the rear stock shocks back on and see what happens.  If it's the same (lower on one side) take it to the dealer with the stockers on and let them see that.

I have a manual transmission, so I probably had it in reverse since the truck was pointed downhill (my flat area to work on is not all that flat).  I did have the emergency brake set and the transfer case was not in neutral...

I guess the first thing is swap the shocks out and see what the result is.  I also email Samco about adjusting the shocks but he has not replied yet.  Thanks, I'll let ya know.

I think this may have been said,  But sometimes if you only disconnect one side the other wont droop enough to get the clearance you need to add extended shackles.   If everything was loose except for the one shackle there shouldn't be anything left to hold it up. try supporting the axle then taking off both shackles. you should be able to get them in at that point with minimal effort (small prybar helps).

I got the shackles on today.  I took it to my brother's house (he has a garage).  We pulled both tires, disconnected the shocks, sway bar and the abs (I think that's what it is) line.  With both sides apart, the axle dropped enough to get them on.  No problems.
