This is a question for H2 owners in the norther states: How much damage does deicing products, IE salt, cause to the undercarrage of the H2? How effective is the factory undercoating. I'm looking at a 2003 H2 in the Maryland area that has seen at least 3 or 4 winters.
If this counts for you, several H2 people in the Gulf Coast area have gone to the beach and run through salt water several trips with no issues of rust popping up. Is the worry about the abrasive aspects of the salt or Sand?

The salt they put down is brutal! Up in Colorado it's big chunks.
The reason for my inquiry is that I am considering buying a 2003 H2 in Maryland and the dealer says there is "evidence of salt corrosion" but no rust. I'm currious if owners have had problems with rusted bolts, weld spots, frame or paint "bubbles".

Salt is a pain. It will rust the heads of the bolts making it hard to get a socket that fits on it. It rusts the threads so that they are harder to get out. It is especially bad if you have two areas of dissimilar metals touching and get salt in there it becomes a corrosion farm, and it will stick these 2 metals together like it was one solid piece. I lived on galveston island for many years and used these products with great results. Thisis possiblythe best stuff I have ever found to stop corrosion and prevent its further spread http://www.nocorrosion.com/uses.htm It does not leave a film it just works. If you are looking for something that will leave a waxy type film like undercoating here is another good product http://www.corrosionx.com/ These both work very well it just depends on what you want it to do.
