There are several types of Intake kits out there to help the Performance and Functionality for your H2 and H3, but what are the differences between them and how hard are they to install? I have put together a list of some of common kits out on the market and the differences between them. I have also included links the install to help determine if it is something you can install. For all that have already purchased a intake kit, please post up and tell about your experiences. K&N's Generation II FIPK - Performance product is designed to increase power by as much as 10%. Most FIPK's are street legal in all 50 US states and comes with a Million Mile Limited Warranty. This kit replaces the factory Air box and you will loose hood air intake function. This will enable water and mud to get to the filter. If you like to go off-roading and go submersible, this can lead to bad news. If you are only interested performance and better MPG, this is the way to go. Reusable filter with recharge oil. Replacement filter available. Cost is around $300 bucks and can be done with average tools. Installs in about 30 Minutes with basic tools. Instructions AIRAID Cold Air Kit - Available for the 03-05 Hummer H2 and the 2005 H2 SUT. This system produces 14 horsepower over the stock air-box unit. Another feature is the CAD (Cool Air Dam), which helps to isolate hot air away from the filter and provides a denser airflow charge. This kit also includes the AIRAID Modular Intake Tube (M.I.T.). Kit constructed of cross-linked high density polyethylene for strength and durability. Again, if your looking for Performance and MPG this is the way to go, however if your an avid offroader think twice before going submersible. Reusable filter with recharge oil. Replacement filter available. Average price is around $300 bucks. Installs in about 30 Minutes with basic tools. Instructions The AIRAID® Jr - is a combination of their Premium Direct-Fit Replacement Filter and Modular Intake Tube (M.I.T.). Even though this is the least expensive option, it turns out to be one of the most functional and easiest to install out of all intake kits. This kit uses the factory Air box and only replaces the filter and the restrictive intake tube. This gives your hummer minimal performance and allows you to get wet on the trails. Installs in about 15 Minutes with basic tools. Instructions TRUEFLOW-AIR INTAKE SYSTEM – This kit retains the factory air box, It includes Drop-In washable foam filter element, replacement high flow intake tube. The main concern if this kit is the filter. Foam has it limitations when it comes to filtration and will require consistent maintenance to keep performance and dirt out of the engine. Installs in about 15 Minutes with basic tools. Volant Cold Air Intake Kit- This Cool Air Intake is a sealed design that allows more air to the engine for more power, while retaining the factory look. This system comes with a new calibrated Mass Air flow sensor and features a High-Flow Body that is less restrictive while properly metering the additional air, allowing the factory computer to make use of the additional cold air charge. This kit is the most popular due to sealed box and the highest performance benefit. However, there as been some talk about the lower vent letting water in. Reusable filter with recharge oil. Replacement filter available. Cost is around $600 bucks Installs in about 30 Minutes with basic tools. Instructions Artical by, Hummertech.net

Well I know on the K&N kits you have to watch out for the oil that they use, it will cause the check engine light to come on. It did on my H3. So I then got the Volant kit and there was a big difference in performance between the two. The Volant had a much better throttle response. But on the down side it is not good for offroading. Water will get inside of the filter box. But for the H2 I have heard that the Volant is the best for it. For the H2 the Volant is a sealed box where as on the H3 it is not. It has a cold air hole at the bottom of the box.

I used a kit form Xtremeflow.com It is a cotton cone filter system. It retains the stock air box. Protecting the filter from engine heat and mud / water.

I read about a product called Turbonator. It is merely a piece of metal that installs in the hose directly after the air filter. The theory is that straight air does not mix as efficiently with the fuel as air that is broken up somehow. This product makes the airflow begin to spin and supposedly mixes more air with more fuel, giving better horsepower and fuel economy. Has anyone else heard of or used this product? It sounds like a very simply, inexpensive ($20), and easy to install device if it works as they say.

I think it's generally understood that it's a crock. I wouldn't bother with it.
