I am talking to Dave at Texas auto gear. Hoping to regear and upgrade the rear axles. Any one have any ideas or suggestions?

Dynatrac and Currie is about as good as it gets.  A buddy of mine built a 91' Suburban with Dynatrac front and rear, supposed to be nearly bullit proof.  With you blowing the axle before this is the way to go.  The housings are very stout.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Isn't the weakest point on the rear axle the axle shafts? If so, I would look at a higher spline count and some heavy duty ring and pinion. Make sure the locker is as good quality.

have nice replacement products.

I think with 37's 4.88 is gear of choice but I think you might be able to go to 5.13 ratio I would have to do more research on that before I would go to the 5.13...But like I said the 4.88 is the best all around gear for the H2's...

Just put my front locker in this weekend!!!!!  Now I am all set for Shilohridge!!!!

I want a front locker!!

If I do all of this I'm lifting and putting 40's on the truck. That's why I thought 5:18 might be better. I was told that the 4:88's and 5:18's had small pinion gears, which sounds bad to me.

Yes the Fabtech. Rancho 4 has been good but yu need to stay with 37 or with 39 x 12 to fit. I like the width of the Nitto and Toyo's.

I will be ordering 4.88 gears soon and was wondering what brand of gears I should use. I would like to have them in before our next run.

I used the strange gears in my ss they held up to a whole lot of abuse in that car!!!  I think 4wheelparts can get them in in plenty of time...  If not I would try Summitracing, that is where i ordered mine from.

I don't think that gears that steep are exactly designed for highway use. Are you going to use the truck as a daily driver or just an offroad machine?

Just giving everybody a update. I switched my gears to 4:88 . I am getting 12.3 on the hwy and 10.8 in the city.  My old mpg was 9.9 and 7.8.   At 75 MPH is turns 2500 RPMs. When I go 85 it will jump to 2900 RPMs

What do you benifit from the current gears? Is it because you have larger tires? or just for better gas milage?

I run 37 inch tires and do a lot of pulling. I feel the gears allow the truck not to work as hard.

We pull our H3 on a trailer this past weekend . The total weight  pulled was 6902 pounds. It is made all the difference in world. There was no more down shifting everytime you went up the smallest hill.  We got 8.2 mpg pulling at a average speed of 65
