Okay - I'm not Gina, but I need help too - what tools do I need if I am going to remove the tow hooks and replace them with the SS ones?

You mean, after our famous shot? I was too busy practicing the HCMM - missed the tool discussion. Where's Tim the tool man when you need him?

ORIGINAL: H3CHIC I found a roof rack I really like, It's a Safari Roof Rack. But it's aluminum (black). It's sharp looking. I here that is not a good route to go. Why, I am not putting a tire up there, or anything heavy, It's for the Ice chest, Christmas tree, etc. Will it bend or something, or makes noises? It just seems it would be lighter and not so heavy like the steal!!! But doesn't the steel ones make noises too? Just wondering? I really like the look of it and you can mount the lights to it as well, don't know how good they would work opposed to having them in the very front???????? I would go with the Aluminum One, Here is why: 1. Weight - even though you would think it would not be as sturdy, it just as strong as steel and weights less. Save MPG$ 2. Rust - with steal you have to have it painted or powder coated. If you start heavily using the rack, scratches = Rust. Aluminum doesn't rust, nor will it require painting. The only negative I can think of is the extra wiring needed for the lights. Since Aluminum is non-conductive, you will need extra wires for grounding. Wheeler

Thanks for the tip, I guess I will order it then, But it's sharp looking and I know it will give the truck a great look as well, and I will be sure ask the shop about the wiring. Thanks again for the tip!!!!!

The tow hooks are easy to remove. You unbolt the two bolts and then and the use a wrench to twist them off. There is a pin that you twist off when you turn the unit. It does not go back in when you put the chrome hooks on. They should take about ten minutes to do.

Thanks Auggie! Finally got them installed today and they look sweet! It was amazing though - as soon as I pulled out the tools to get started, two guys appeared and took over the job and I got to do what I do best - supervise. But at least I know how now!

Does it really matter what others think? It is your HUMMER you do as you wish to it. But for the reasons you stated I would go with the aliminum. lighter stronger and bling bling makes it well use your imagination. Dirty
